It’s not every day that you get to produce a 25’ free-standing wall comprised of 20 panes of glass with the faces of NFL and NBA all-stars printed on them, only to watch said all-stars smash them all! So when our clients at CAA called us to do just that, we jumped at the opportunity! A charity event sponsored by CDW and Microsoft, CAA asked us to replicate an activation that they did the year prior, but do it better . . . So we did!
Our engineering team went right to work designing a large, stable base for this delicate structure, while simultaneously figuring out the best way to build a 20’ frame that could hold 20 large sheets of printed glass. Our metal shop fabricated 5 aluminum frames that we connected on-site to create the full wall, and our graphics team started direct printing faces and logos on each pane of glass. Once assembled, the real work began as we delicately and painstakingly installed each pane of glass, one at a time, in a specific, pre-determined order, and ran guide lines on each corner to keep the structure stable in the wind. After a full day of install, the wall was ready for action!
Sports celebrities including Aaron Rodgers, Chris Paul, Ray Allen, Reggie Bush, Josh Scobee & J.R. Smith. Each got a few shots at smashing the faces of their teammates and rivals, all in the name of charity. After many laughs, and a lot of broken glass, Josh Scobee emerged the winner, with his face intact, and got to donate 25 Microsoft Surface tablets to the charity of his choosing on behalf of the NFL. Camera crews captured some great footage of the event and it was broadcast on TNT. Everyone had a great time and left with a smile on their faces!
